Who Is Cosmetic Dentistry For?

Cosmetic dentistry is highly personalized. Most patients come to us with one or more of the following concerns:

You may be a good candidate for cosmetic dental treatment if you:

  • Have teeth that are stained or discolored, and whitening has not produced the results you wanted

  • Have chipped, cracked, or worn teeth that affect your appearance and confidence

  • Have gaps between teeth that you would like to close without traditional braces

  • Want straighter teeth but prefer a discreet option over metal brackets

  • Have teeth that are uneven, misshapen, or out of proportion

  • Are preparing for a major life event and want your smile to reflect how you feel

Cosmetic dentistry is also appropriate for patients who have completed restorative treatment and want to bring their smile to its full aesthetic potential.

At Union Dental, we believe your dental health and the appearance of your smile are not separate goals — we work toward both together.

Meet Your Cosmetic Dentistry Team

Union Dental’s cosmetic work is performed by three experienced dentists who bring a combined commitment to quality, precision, and honest patient communication.

Dr_Leonardo.jpg

Leonardo M.B. Castillo, DMD

leads Union Dental’s approach to comprehensive care. Dr. Castillo’s philosophy centers on taking the time to do things right — not rushing through procedures to maximize volume. He is particularly focused on treatments that offer long-term durability, which is why Union Dental often recommends crowns over veneers when the long-term outlook is better for the patient.

Dr_Leonardo.jpg

Kathy Nguyen, DMD

brings expertise in cosmetic and restorative procedures, with an emphasis on patient comfort and clear communication about treatment options.

Dr_Leonardo.jpg

Annie Parafianowicz, DMD

rounds out Union Dental’s team with a focus on comprehensive care and building long-term relationships with patients across the Las Vegas valley.

All three dentists are committed to the same principle: their recommendations are based on what is genuinely best for your smile’s long-term health — not on selling you a specific procedure.

Our process

Our Cosmetic Dentistry Services

Union Dental offers a full range of cosmetic procedures. Your journey starts with a consultation to discuss your goals, evaluate your current dental health, and determine which approach will deliver the best results for your specific situation.

Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening delivers results that over-the-counter products cannot match. We use clinical-strength whitening agents in a controlled setting, minimizing sensitivity while maximizing color change. Results vary by cause of discoloration — intrinsic staining (from certain medications or tooth development) responds differently than extrinsic staining (from coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco).

Best for: Patients with healthy teeth whose primary concern is color. Not recommended for patients with significant decay, gum disease, or worn enamel until those issues are addressed.

Dental Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-crafted shells bonded to the front surface of teeth to change color, shape, size, or length. When done well, veneers deliver highly aesthetic, long-lasting results.

What to know: Veneer placement requires removing a thin layer of enamel, making the procedure irreversible. For this reason, we carefully evaluate whether veneers are the right choice or whether more conservative options, such as bonding or whitening, can achieve your goals. Veneers are not ideal for patients with significant grinding unless a night guard is part of the treatment plan.

Best for: Multiple teeth with discoloration, chips, minor misalignment, or shape irregularities where a uniform, dramatic result is desired.

Dental Bonding

Composite resin bonding is one of the most versatile and conservative cosmetic treatments available. The material is applied directly to the tooth surface, shaped, and hardened — no lab time required, often completed in a single visit. Bonding can close small gaps, repair chips, cover discoloration, or slightly reshape a tooth.

Best for: Single-tooth corrections, smaller chips, narrow gaps, and patients who want a lower-commitment cosmetic improvement. Bonding is less stain-resistant and durable than porcelain, but is also significantly less expensive and requires no enamel removal.

Dental Crowns (Cosmetic Applications)

A crown covers the entire visible surface of a tooth. While crowns are primarily restorative (protecting a damaged or root canal-treated tooth), they also serve cosmetic purposes — improving the shape, color, and size of a tooth that is significantly compromised. Union Dental uses Zirconia crowns, which offer excellent strength and a natural appearance.

Our approach: We often recommend crowns over veneers when a tooth is already weakened, cracked, or heavily restored. A crown protects what remains of the tooth while achieving the cosmetic result; veneers do not provide the same structural support. We will always explain why we recommend one over the other for your specific tooth.

Best for: Teeth that are significantly damaged, have undergone a root canal, or need both cosmetic improvement and structural protection.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable plastic trays to gradually shift teeth into alignment. For mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and some bite issues, Invisalign produces results comparable to traditional braces — without the wires, brackets, or dietary restrictions.

What sets experienced cosmetic dentists apart with Invisalign: Proper case selection matters. Not every alignment case is appropriate for Invisalign, and overreaching with clear aligner treatment leads to incomplete results and frustration. We will evaluate your case honestly and tell you up front whether you are a good candidate.

What compliance requires: Aligners must be worn 20–22 hours per day to stay on track. Wearing them fewer than 20 hours per day slows treatment and can cause teeth to drift between tray changes — extending your total treatment time or requiring additional trays at additional cost.

Best for: Adults and older teens with mild to moderate alignment concerns who want a discreet treatment option and can commit to consistent daily wear.

Smile Makeovers

A smile makeover combines two or more cosmetic procedures to achieve a comprehensive result. For example: whitening + bonding to close gaps, or Invisalign followed by veneers on front teeth once alignment is complete. Your consultation will determine the right sequence and combination of treatments.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry works best when your oral health is stable.
Before beginning cosmetic treatment, we ensure:

No active decay — cavities must be treated before cosmetic work is placed

Healthy gums — gum disease, especially active infection or significant recession, must be addressed before cosmetic procedures

Stable bite — if you grind or clench heavily, that needs to be managed alongside cosmetic treatment to prevent premature wear

Realistic expectations — cosmetic procedures improve appearance; they do not change the fundamental structure of your teeth or cure bite issues on their own

Patients who need restorative work — fillings, crowns, root canal therapy, or treatment for gum disease — are often great cosmetic candidates once those underlying issues are addressed.

Having gum disease today does not disqualify you from cosmetic dentistry. It means we treat the gum disease first — which typically takes 3–6 months — and then proceed with cosmetic work on a healthy foundation. We frequently treat both in the same comprehensive treatment plan.

How the Cosmetic Dentistry Process Works at Union Dental

Step 1: Consultation

Every cosmetic case begins with a comprehensive consultation. We discuss your goals, review your dental and medical history, take X-rays if needed, and evaluate the condition of your teeth and gums.

You will leave your consultation with a clear understanding of your options, timeline, and expected outcomes.

There is no pressure to commit. Our goal is to give you the information you need to make the right decision.

Step 2: Treatment Planning

If restorative work is needed first (filling a cavity, treating gum disease), we sequence that into the plan before cosmetic procedures. If you want to whiten before bonding or veneers, we schedule whitening first, so your restorations are matched to your new shade.

Complex cases — like smile makeovers combining Invisalign, whitening, and veneers — are mapped out step by step, with timelines and cost estimates, before treatment begins.

Step 3: Procedures

Cosmetic procedures at Union Dental are performed with attention to detail and patient comfort. We use quality materials — Zirconia for crowns, high-grade composite for bonding — and take the time to achieve results that look natural and last.

For multi-visit procedures (crowns, veneers, Invisalign), we provide detailed instructions at each stage and are always available to address questions between appointments.

Step 4: Follow-Up and Maintenance

Your cosmetic results are only as lasting as your maintenance. We will review what to expect from your specific procedure — how long it should last, how to care for it, and what to watch for. Annual check-ups and professional cleanings protect your investment and allow us to catch any early issues before they affect your results.

Our Comprehensive Dental Services

Pricing and Insurance

Cosmetic dentistry procedures vary in cost depending on the number of teeth involved, the materials used, and the complexity of the case.

Investing in quality materials and precise technique upfront means longer-lasting results — reducing the likelihood of early replacement and the additional cost and time that comes with it.

General price ranges (Las Vegas market — estimates vary by case complexity and materials):

$300–$600

Professional teeth whitening

$200–$600

Dental bonding (per tooth)

$900–$2,500

Porcelain veneers (per tooth)

$1,000–$2,000

Zirconia crowns
(per tooth)

$3,000–$8,000

Invisalign
(depending on complexity)

Insurance: Most dental insurance plans do not cover purely cosmetic procedures. However, some procedures — such as crowns placed for structural reasons, or Invisalign for specific bite issues — may have a restorative component that qualifies for partial coverage. We will review your coverage and provide a clear estimate before any treatment begins.

Union Dental works with multiple insurance providers and offers financing options to make treatment accessible. Please call our office at (702) 872-2872 or visit our insurance and financing page for details.
